@mmn What would happen if Mastodon started allowing UTF8 usernames? Would that be problematic for GS? We could try using Punycode if UTF8 directly would break things.

@Gargron @mmn Strong -1 : was invented for a very specific issue (domain names in applications), there is no good reason to apply it anywhere else.

@mmn @Gargron I strongly suggest that, instead, you use the PRECIS framework (RFC 7564 rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7564.txt ) and its adaptation to usernames (RF 7613 rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7613.txt )
