There's an amazing number of #ActivityPub #alternatives now available or under development:

Twitter -> @Mastodon and #Pleroma

Instagram -> @pixelfed and @anfora

YouTube -> #PeerTube ( @Chocobozzz )

Soundcloud -> @funkwhale

MeetUp -> @GetTogetherComm

Medium -> #Plume ( @BaptisteGelez )

Reddit -> @prismo and Anancus ( @tuxether )

LinkedIn -> @cloutstream

Google Calendar -> @calendar_social

Anything missing from the list? What else is needed?

#Federation #Fediverse

@bortzmeyer @switchingsocial @BaptisteGelez Medium is a more modern blogging system, there are more social features than a standard blog (and it often needs to have a specific account on each blog, or using a centralized system like Disqus). And, I find pretty interesting to comment a blogpost with your Mastodon account.

@Madeorsk @switchingsocial @BaptisteGelez The argument about comments is strange: Medium *is* a centralized system, like Disqus.

@bortzmeyer @switchingsocial @BaptisteGelez Absolutely! But ActivityPub is not. So, having a "medium over activitypub" alternative is interesting.

@Madeorsk @switchingsocial @BaptisteGelez A decentralized comment system (I don't care about ActivityPub) would certainly be nice. But I don't feel the need for "a Medium alternative".

Also, it is strange (and disappointing) to promote decentralized systems only by a reference to a centralized one. It is like advertising Linux as "a Windows alternative". There were social networks long before Facebook and Medium!

@bortzmeyer @switchingsocial @BaptisteGelez Ok I understand, however some people that like Medium and the way it works may feel this need.

Yes I agree about that.

The point of is to encourage non-technical people (who probably use centralised systems) to switch to decentralised/open/free alternatives.

If you're already on a decentralised/libre system, then that's great 👍 :blobcheer: 😎
